Our Story
In October 1996, the PMI Philippines Chapter was chartered in Boston Massachusetts, and was formally registered with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission in July, 1997. PMI Philippines is a non-profit corporation that seeks to educate its members, as well as share and exchange information with other project management practitioners.
Guided by the vision of its Founding President, the late Ruperto Kapunan, the PMI - Philippines Chapter aims to "Build Professionalism in Project Management" with the steadily growing number of Filipino practitioners though its initiatives.
1996: July 1
29 years ago, the PMI Philippines Chapter was born.
1996: October
Philippines Chapter was chartered in Boston by the initiative of Ruperto Kapunan III, who was elected as the founding president.

Chapter operations began with several technical sessions held within the year

First technical session was with Mr. Richard Hauptman of Bechtel International
1999: January
First project management conference of the Philippines Chapter held at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila.
Bill Duncan (chair of the 1st edition of the PMBOK® Guide) and Debbie O’Bray (former chairperson of PMI) conducted a 1-day course on the PMBOK® Guide.
A 3-day course on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by the Stephen Covey Center was also conducted.
First project management conference of the Philippines Chapter held at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila.
1999: October
Upon discovery of his illness, RK enacted a turnover of the chapter presidency to Patrick Ferrer as an interim measure.
2000: March
Our founding president, RK, passed away.
2001
Re-organization of the Chapter and Board of Trustees with a technical session conducted by Dr. Ken Smith.
2002
The first Applied Project Management course was conducted in collaboration with SPI Technologies.
2003
The first General Membership Meeting was held.
2004-2006

The Applied Project Management course expands further in collaboration with INTEL Philippines, NEC (Cebu), and other firms.

The Chapter also collaborated with Ateneo De Manila Center for Continuing Education for a diploma course in Project Management.

PMI Philippines Chapter turned 10
2007
In February, the Philippines chapter was represented in the Leadership Institute Meeting in Hong Kong. This was attended by Patrick Ferrer.
2008
In December, the Global Project Manager Diploma Program with Ateneo Center for Continuing Education ended after 5 five years of 5 batch runs.
2009

Region 15 Meeting in KL with PMI PH represented

On January 28, the Philippines chapter conducted its first formal election.
2010
PMI Philippines Board members namely Patrick Ferrer, Lydia Morales, Casel Ganihong, Sergio Tan and Randy Balaoro were instructors in this course.
2011
Mr. Lamdagan became the chapter president
2012
The first National Symposium on Project Management at SMX Convention Center, Pasay City
2013
2nd National Symposium held in November at Intercon Hotel, Makati City
2014
Disaster Project Management was organized due to Yolanda Tragedy in Visayas
2015
The Philippines Chapter reached a number of more than 400 members in the said year
