PMI Philippines Chapter Launches Cebu Academe Roadshows
Visits to Cebu Institute of Technology-University, University of San Jose Recoletos, and University of San Carlos Showcased PMI and Project Managment
To address the growing need for more project managers and further the awareness and value of the project management profession, PMI Philippines Chapter conducted project management roadshows at various universities in the Cebu area this past October and November 2018. Attended by nearly 400 students both at the undergraduate and masters level as well as faculty, the roadshow emphasized how students can capitalize on several learning and educational resources available to them through PMI’s Educational Foundation Program. Additionally, invited speakers provided insights on project management disciplines and how graduates can be better prepared to compete in today’s job market.

“Providing this level of awareness and education before students hit the job market will give them the competitive advantage” says Joe Rey, Associate Director, PMI Philippines Chapter, Vis/Min Region. Rey added “the need for project managers, given the Build, Build, Build initiative of President Duterte, necessitates that we be proactive to ensure project management learning is a key part of today’s academic curriculum”. In addition to the key speakers, the roadshow also included alumni speakers who are now practicing project managers sharing their experiences and how best to enter the job market and the value and benefit project management has been in their career. This added a level of connection to the students, who until attending the roadshow, knew very little about PMI and the learning opportunities provided to the academe. A special alumni speaker was Ray Lamdagan, President & Board of Trustee, PMI Philippines Chapter. Lamdagan is also the President & CEO of JEDD Technologies Corporation, an electrical and automation company providing turn-key solutions to the electric power industry. In his presentation, Lamdagan emphasized the importance of securing a PMI credential, such as the CAPM, in providing an early advantage to graduating students entering project management.
