PMI Philippines Chapter President

2020 Christmas and Year-End Message

To PMI Philippines Chapter Members:

On behalf of the PMI Philippines Chapter’s Board of Trustees, I would like to wish you and your family a Blessed Christmas & a Happy New Year!

We would also like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation for all the hard work and dedication provided by our member volunteers and Chapter staff this year.

2020 has been a most challenging year for all of us in so many ways.  We had to change the way we conduct our daily lives, the way we work, the way we socialize, and the way we relate to our family, friends and peers.  For PMI Philippines Chapter, this also includes the way we interact and engage with our members and the project management community in general.  We need to prioritize and continue to provide value to the PM community in promoting the project management profession and ensure sustainability of Chapter activities, training sessions, and other service offerings.

When the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine protocols happened last March 16, 2020, the Chapter suspended indefinitely all the regular in-person classroom training, annual symposium and technical sessions.  The Board of Trustees conferred and studied our options to ensure sustainability of  Chapter activities and training offerings under the new normal.

Through agility and adaptation, the Chapter quickly reinvented its operations.  We were able to conduct 18 virtual  trainings in project management for the public and select corporate clients,  and hold 5 online technical and roundtable sessions for the continuing education and development of our members, including the successful Reframe Year-End series last December 10 & 15, 2020.  All these trainings and technical sessions got very good feedback survey results from the participants, while at the same time keeping everyone safe.

And some more good news.  The Chapter was pre-qualified for the 2020 Chapter of the Year Award under Category II (301 – 1500 Members).  In addition, our Chapter was awarded the “Nurturing Teamwork” award by the PMI Asia Pacific Region during the 2020 Leader Pathways Gala held last November 27, 2020.  This award is in recognition of PMI Philippines Chapter efforts in keeping the volunteers and  members engaged during these challenging times. Likewise, our past Chapter President, Ray Lamdagan, has been selected to be the PMI Region 15 Mentor, providing mentorship to PMI Chapters in the following countries – Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam.

We are grateful that our Chapter was able to continue to provide value to our members, and the project management community, in 2020 despite the constraints, and we look forward to a brighter New Year, more so as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of our Chapter.  Mabuhay ang PMI Philippines Chapter!

Be well and stay safe,

Emilio J. Tumbocon
