COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Agile Awareness Training is intended for those who want to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge to understand the true value of Agile.  After this training, participants will have a better knowledge on how to deploy Agile appropriately in their respective organizations / departments.

Participants will be taught on how to create a hybrid approach when dealing with projects that are new and unclear in terms of scope.  Also, the value of core Agile and the power of Agile feedback loops are explained first and then practiced by the participants to get the real benefits of Agile.

Why take this Agile Awareness training? People need to better understand the VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) world and hence must equip themselves with an approach that welcome change and away from the predictive world.  All large companies have adopted Agile in their IT environment and are moving to embrace Agile at the enterprise level, not just IT.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
  • Understand the strengths, philosophy and background of Agile and the Agile principles
  • Distinguish the different approaches: Agile, Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe®, etc.
  • Understand the importance of creating a team that embraces the Agile values for delivering values to the customer
  • Gain a basic understanding of all facets of Agile: Enterprise, Process, Human, Technical, Change Management, and Product
  • How to immediately apply some of the key Agile concepts in the day-to-day activities
  • Developing new Agile habits through the power of Agile Ceremonies
  • Getting a taste of Scrum (Process Agile) through mini exercises
  • Creating a powerful momentum to deploy agile for the entire enterprise

 

Professional Development Units (PDU):

PMP® and PMI-ACP® credential holders can earn a total of 14 PDUs:

8 PDUs under the Ways of Working (Technical) Category

4 PDUs under the Business Acumen (Strategic & Business Management) Category

2 PDUs under the Power Skills (Leadership) Category

Other PMI credential holders can earn a total of 6 PDUs in the Business Acumen (Strategic & Business Management) and Power Skills (Leadership) categories.

COURSE METHODOLOGY

The Agile Awareness Training is an interactive online training where the facilitator and participants interact in real time.  The facilitator discusses a specific project management related-topic and participants can join in the discussions.  It also allows participants to ask questions during the live lecture.  A session may include individual exercises and is done online as facilitator is available to answer any query or clarification. There will also be a case study and will be presented by each group in the latter part of the online training.

Requirements for the online training include:

  • Laptop or Desktop preferably with earphone or headset, camera, and Zoom application
    • Note: use of mobile phone instead of laptop or desktop is not recommended
  • Reliable Internet Connection
  • MS Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint
 
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Amin Leiman holds the following professional certifications: PMI-ACP®, PMP®, SDC®, SMC®, CPC®, CISA®.  A graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, USA with a master's degree in Information Technology (IT), Amin focused early in his career on people and process excellence.  He is the author of Karate Project Management and Agile Done Well books.

He provides consultation for many of the world's most successful firms, bringing to them the Agile organization management approach to produce sustainable and agile business practices.  He speaks conversational Mandarin Chinese and Japanese.  Additionally, he speaks Indonesian with native fluency.

Amin teaches project management and positive psychology (Appreciative Inquiry) courses in the US, Philippines and Indonesia.  He is a frequent guest speaker of Asian Development Bank, Project Management Institute (PMI) Philippines chapter and PMI Indonesia chapter.  He was an adjunct professor at the University of Hawaii, Manoa and Hawaii Pacific University for over 10 years.

He previously held several high-level managerial positions at Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (HEI) and KPMG US. One of his notable projects was working as a Cyber Security Specialist at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), California, USA.

Amin is the past president of PMI Honolulu, Hawaii, Chapter and ROTARY CLUB of Honolulu Sunrise, Hawaii, USA.

COURSE OUTLINE

 The Agile Awareness Training is a 3.5-hour session per day training, total of 4 days. Each session will be held from 9:00AM – 12:30PM via Zoom. Participants need to log into Zoom to be able to listen to the lecture, and join in the exercises, both individual and group.
