COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this fast-paced and global business environment, all organizations (be it in the private/commercial or public/non-profit sectors) are implementing initiatives and action plans through projects. This in turn made “project management” one of the most sought-after management skills worldwide. The main objective of this training is to equip the participants with the general Project Management background and rudimentary techniques that are sure to be found useful in a participant’s everyday challenges with projects.

The course will discuss briefly on the Project Management Framework based on the Project Management Institute’s (PMI)® “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) 6th Edition” – the reference of the latest ISO standard on project management (ISO® 21500:2012). Most of the course will cover insights on the pertinent concepts and good practices of project management applicable in any project. The learning process during the training course will also be reinforced by the individual and team exercises to be conducted using tools and techniques that the participants can immediately apply in their respective workplaces.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
  • Awareness of the Project Management Framework based on PMI’s A Guide to Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), 6th Edition;
  • Identify the project stakeholders and use the PIG (power-influence grid) matrix;
  • Scoping the project from a high-level requirement and refine the scope to the project’s deliverable components using the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS);
  • Develop the project’s schedule, budget and cost estimate, and the other facilitating plans that may be required depending on the project’s level of complexity, criticality, and risk exposure, and consolidate all these plans in a “Project Management Plan”;
  • Understand the precedence diagramming method in constructing the project schedule network diagram;
  • Learn the various cost estimation techniques to come up with the estimated project cost / budget;
  • Use Responsibility Assignment Matrix /RACI to illustrate the connections between work that needs to be done and project team members;
  • Understand the different types of contracts;
  • Identify the risks in a project and learn the methods in managing and monitoring these risks using the Risk Register Log;
  • Awareness of the important areas to manage during the project’s Execution phase and track as part of Monitoring and Control;
  • Understand the importance of the Change Control Process and how to manage the changes in the project;
  • Report the status and progress of a project with the aid of milestones;
  • Determine the performance of a project and report it using RAG (Red, Amber, Green); and
  • Know the pertinent close-out activities and formally close the project with a Project Close-out Report (PCR).

 

TARGET AUDIENCE

Any person working on or will work on a project, project team members, project leads, project administrators, project coordinators, functional supervisors and managers, ad-hoc or "accidental" project managers, and anyone who is interested in the basics of project management.

 
COURSE METHODOLOGY

The Introduction to Project Management Online is an interactive virtual training where the facilitator and participants interact in real time.  The facilitator discusses a specific project management related-topic and participants can join in the discussions.  It also allows participants to ask questions during the live lecture.  A session may include individual exercises and is done online as facilitator is available to answer any query or clarification. There will also be a case study and will be presented by each group in the latter part of the online training.

Requirements for the online training include:

  • Laptop or Desktop preferably with earphone or headset, camera, and Zoom application
    • Note: use of mobile phone instead of laptop or desktop is not recommended
  • Reliable Internet Connection
  • MS Office – Excel, Word, Powerpoint (for the exercises)
  • Mobile Phone with Internet Access (for the learning game)
 
COURSE OUTLINE

The Introduction to Project Management Online is a 5-day 3.5-hour session per day training. Each session will be held from 8:30 AM – 12:00 NN via Zoom. Participants need to log into Zoom to be able to listen to the lecture, and join in the exercises, both individual and group.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Antonio Rivera has spent two decades in multinational companies in the business of providing IT shared services to their on-shore offices. While he started his career in software development and project management, he has expanded and cultivated skills in strategic planning, business analysis and human resources. Mr. Rivera has conducted various training as part of his consultancy work.
