This course is aimed at anyone who manages a portfolio of projects or projects in combination with operations, which is a regular management challenge. The participant will be taught the technique for properly managing portfolios and their components, allocating the necessary resources, and evaluating their performance. Participants will learn how to realign portfolios and their components to company strategy in order to make it relevant.


The Practical Portfolio Management is an interactive online training where the facilitator and participants interact in real time.  The facilitator discusses a specific project management related-topic and participants can join in the discussions.  It also allows participants to ask questions during the live lecture.  A session may include individual exercises and is done online as facilitator is available to answer any query or clarification. There will also be a case study and will be presented by each group in the latter part of the online training.

Requirements for the online training include:

  • Laptop or Desktop preferably with earphone or headset, camera, and Zoom application
    • Note: use of mobile phone instead of laptop or desktop is not recommended
  • Reliable Internet Connection
  • MS Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)


Professional Development Units (PDU):
PMI credential holders can earn a total of 7 PDUs: 3 PDUs under the Strategic & Business Management Category and 4 PDUs under the Leadership Category of the PMI Talent Triangle®.


This training is open to all fields which handle portfolios, most especially IT, Construction, Engineering Firms


The Practical Portfolio Management Training is a 3.5-hour session per day training with 30-mins break for each session, total of 2 days. Each session will be held from 5:30PM – 9:00PM via Zoom. Participants need to log into Zoom to be able to listen to the lecture, and join in the exercises, both individual and group.

Dr. Francisco Castillo is currently Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Maynilad Water Services, inc., the water concessionaire for the West area of Manila’s greater metropolitan area, which serves over 9 million people.

In 2013 he was named “Outstanding ASEAN CIO” by IDG, and in 2016 was voted Best ASEAN CIO 2016 during the ASEAN IT Strategy Forum in Singapore.

He is an ECE graduate from the De La Salle University and holds a Ph.D. in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from the Universidad Politecnica de Cataluña (Barcelona, Spain), where he also taught as Associate Professor and was Associate Director (equivalent to Vice Dean) for the Technical Engineering College. He is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), as well as a Project Management Professional (PMP®) and Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP®).

Under his watch in Maynilad, the company attained ISO20,001 certification, and is one of the few companies in the region to hold an SAP Customer Center of Expertise accreditation. Last 2016, Maynilad was nominated to the SAP CCOE Global award, the first time an Asian company is nominated.

Aside from being in charge of the IT Dept., he also heads  the Plant Automation & Industrial Design Depts., making it one of the first companies to have an integrated IT and OT setup.

He is also the author of the book entitled “Managing Information Technology” published by Springer (Germany) in 2016, intended to be a one-stop shop guide for CIOs and IT Professionals interested in the best practices in managing a technology setup.

He holds patent UM 2/2020/050675 as co-inventor under Maynilad for the “Utility Meter Reading and on-site Utility Billing”, as well as the Patent filed #12021050260 “Access Control to Application Module Functions Using Assignable Permission Groups and User Profiles”

He has also delivered lectures on IT worldwide including Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Singapore, Sweden, Hong Kong, among others, and is currently part-time Adjunct Professor in the Asian Institute of Management (AIM-Manila), teaching on a diverse set of topics related to the management of technology.
