COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Project Management Fundamentals - Tools & Techniques (PMF-T&T) virtual training (formerly known as Project Management Fundamentals) is for Project Managers and anyone else who are involved in project planning, scheduling, budgeting and/or monitoring. It provides essential knowledge about the Project Life Cycle processes common to any endeavor -- economic enterprise, infrastructure, industrial product, social, others – as well as best practice methodologies, project management tools and techniques for their management.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, successful participants will be able to:

  • Understand generic project management concepts and terminologies
  • Recognize the Project Manager’s Roles and Responsibilities within various organizational structures and at different stages of project processing
  • Appreciate the value of a working-style personality test, and apply it to build effective project teams
  • Apply interrelated Tree and Log frame methodologies for identifying, scoping & planning projects
  • Apply several tools and techniques for systematically identifying, estimating and assessing the extent of project risks, and how to deal with them
  • Understand classic Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Gantt Chart and Milestone techniques basic
  • Use Critical Path network diagramming to develop Project Implementation Plan schedules from a WBS
  • Monitor projects with Milestone and Critical Path Analysis
  • Appreciate the value of dedicated software programs to monitor projects
  • Develop a project Cost Baseline for effective Earned Value Analysis (EVA) using network diagramming
  • Monitor integrated project progress use the Earned Value Method (EVM)

PMP® credential holders can earn a total of 40 PDUs:

COURSE METHODOLOGY

The Project Management Fundamentals – Tools & Techniques (Virtual) is an interactive virtual training where the facilitator and participants interact in real time.  The facilitator discusses a specific project management related-topic and participants can join in the discussions.  It also allows participants to raise or ask questions during the live lecture.  The session may include individual exercises.

Requirements for the online training include:

  • Laptop or Desktop preferably with earphone or headset, camera, and Zoom application
    • Note: use of mobile phone instead of laptop or desktop is not recommended
  • Reliable Internet Connection
  • MS Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • PM Tool Kit (Specific tool kit will be provided a day prior to each Session)
 
COURSE FACILITATOR

Formerly a program and project manager, evaluator, trainer and advisor for the US Agency for International Development (USAID), a consultant for Asian Development Bank, the World Bank Group and United Nations, and a management systems specialist for the US Defense Department, Dr. Kenneth Smith is now a freelance project management consultant. He earned his Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) in monitoring & evaluation from the George Mason University (GMU) in Virginia, an MS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/MIT (Systems Analysis Fellow, Center for Advanced Engineering Study) and MA & BA in Government & International Relations from the University of Connecticut. Dr. Smith is a Project Management Institute (PMI)® Certified Project Management Professional (PMP®), and a member of the International Project Management Association (IPMA) and the PMI Honolulu Chapter.
